PHUKET: The Phuket International Women’s Club (PIWC) will reached out to yet another flock of young minds with more than 2 million baht worth of scholarships on August 19.

“We want to give a better future to students in financial need. We work closely with schools, colleges and universities as we move through the selection process,” said PIWC Scholarships Chairman Wipa Tanmanatragul.

“Once the facility selects those they believe are in need of the support, we will interview the students.”

Following the long school holiday break the Phuket International Women’s Club (PIWC) has begun assessments for its 2016 scholarship program. The club, now in its third decade, provides education support for children from less privileged backgrounds, monitoring their scholastic progress and awarding additional scholarships each year to a new group of students.

On 24th of May, 5 ladies went out against torrential rain to k. Somchai’s garden to see rare helliconia and few sorts of Musa of different colours. There, they also found other plants which were not grown elsewhere in Phuket such as Monstera deliciosa which they use it’s leaves for flower arrangements. And others are Passiflora foedita ( stinking passion flower,), an interesting sweet fruit when it is ripe. It was an interesting trip and after delicious lunch at Vareeya Resort and Restsurant, we all got home with one or two Gardenia gjllerupii from Joan. Thank you very much.

This year’s presentation took place on 19th August at Satree Phuket School when 160 students were awarded their scholarship certificate. The club was also well represented by both members and former PIWC scholarship graduates. One of our former students, Sao, now works at The Phuket Gazette and put together this piece shown on PGTV.
